  23.             The University of Michigan has several collections of public
  24.             domain,   freeware,   and  shareware  software.   Additional
  25.             archives, additional  access  methods,  more  documentation,
  26.             mailing  lists, and better indexing are planned; suggestions
  27.             are welcome.

  29.             _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _A_c_c_e_s_s

  31.             The archives are at two locations.
  32.  
  33.             Atari software is located at  "atari.archive.umich.edu",  in
  34.             the directory "atari".
  35.  
  36.             Other  software  is  located  at  "archive.umich.edu",  with
  37.             aliases  mac.archive.umich.edu, msdos.archive.umich.edu, and
  38.             apple2.archive.umich.edu) in the following directories:

  42.                apple2        Apple 2 software
  43.                next.ftp      NeXT software

  67.             o+  FTP Access: You can use ftp  to  get  to  these  archives
  68.                (login  as  "anonymous";  use any password).  Please res-
  69.                trict anonymous ftp access to atari.archive.umich.edu  to
  70.                evening  through  early  morning EDT (-4:00 GMT), to show
  71.                consideration   to   the   regular   users.    Users   of
  72.                archive.umich.edu  need not observe this restriction, but
  73.                will get better response in that time period.   For  load
  74.                management  reasons,  limits on ftp access may be imposed
  75.                in the future.

  77.             o+  AFS Access: If you are using AFS (Andrew File System) you
  78.                can  get  to  the  archive  directory  (except  the atari
  79.                archive) with "cd /afs/umich.edu/group/itd/archive".

  81.             o+  Email Access: You may request that files be mailed to you
  82.                from  the  atari  archives  (see  the  Help file in those
  83.                archives for details).  This service will be expanded  to
  84.                include other archives in the future.

  88.             The archives are freely available to everyone.

  92.             The University is planning additional  archives  and  access
  93.             methods,  more  documentation  and mailing lists, and better
  94.             indexing.  Suggestions are welcome.

  98.             Most  of  the  work  on  the  archives  is  being  done   by
  99.             volunteers.   Their  time  is  limited, so a response may be
  100.             delayed, but please contact  them  with  questions,  sugges-
  101.             tions, submissions, or praise.
